Elvis has been and will be the dog I have loved the most. All my dogs are special, but he is my spoiled boy.

We shared trips, early mornings, and many exhibitions... He participated in 30 beauty contests around the world, and won 29 of them, his career was brilliant. One of his most important and beautiful achievements was the World Championship in Denmark in 2010 where he was proclaimed BEST PUPPY OF THE WORLD with 22.000 dogs registered.

My hair still stands on end, remembering that moment when Prince Elvis' name was announced as the winner over the loudspeaker, and when the photographers' flashes almost left us "blind" in the red carpet style of the Oscars. To immortalize the moment for magazines around the world. It was magical and our connection even more so.

In this exhibition a friend told me that I think Elvis could go bald... From that moment on I knew that I would do everything in my power, but I would never medicate him if he suffered from Alopecia X. I would use whatever I thought was best for his hair. Well, I used what I thought was best for him on his hair, I even took him to a beach where they said the water healed his skin... I blamed myself because I didn't think I was doing enough. And I just didn't have the knowledge I have now to treat him.

At show number 30, in Birmingham England, one of the biggest shows in the world. Elvis was starting to show his lack of hair, I was offered to medicate him a month before the show, but I was sure, when Elvis will be bald, he would not step in the ring but he would still be my spoiled boy. And I would never put him at risk for aesthetic reasons. Those types of drugs can affect the liver.

That was his last show, which we didn't win, but which we enjoyed just the same because he and I ate up the track and enjoyed it to the fullest, win and no win.

And then from that moment on I have not stopped looking for a solution to this problem for a single day. Years have passed since then. And my goal is and will be to help Pomeranian owners who find themselves lost and frustrated as I once felt.

With the opening of my cosmetic salon Pets & Poms, I was faced with the reality, how many thousands of Pomeranians suffer from this disease in the world? That made me turn to each case as if they were Elvis, and try to give them back their lost beauty.

The first Pomeranian I had success with was Elvis, he was bald for many years, even after neutering which did not work for him.

Very cottony Pomeranians are more prone, if at the time of the moulting we see that our Pomeranian does not start to moult normally, and instead the hair is more and more woolly, and with a grayish or black color (in the case of orange Pomeranian) in its root, which has less and less color. It can be a symptom that the change of hair in the Pomeranian is not going well, and I say can. Because it can also begin the change a month or two later and then suddenly moult. A very clear symptom is when the Pomeranian's hair stops growing normally on the ears and paws. The Pomeranian's hair should always grow from one grooming session to the next.

Of course another sign is when bald patches appear, usually on the hind legs in the genital or tail area, but it could also be in other areas.

Brown or dark mole-like spots on the skin. All of these are symptoms that tell us that the disease may be coming or that you already have it.

When we have a Pomeranian puppy the important thing is to be alert. And I say alert, not scared or anxious. This is a very nice stage that you should enjoy. But keeping alert can help you in the future.

If we have a Pomeranian puppy, which as we have seen in the previous point has not started the moulting normally, its coat is very cottony and dry, we must not let this go further. Remember that a well hydrated coat leads to a healthy skin and a beautiful and shiny coat.

Since we see these signs or signals that indicate possible alopecia x in the Pomeranian, we totally change its skin and coat care.
